Dear Confreres,

After a long life of self-giving to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and of service to the Church as the Priest of the Sacred Heart, our confrere, Fr. Benjamin Zambetti, died yesterday in Bolongnano.

He was the most senior member of our confreres. He was 101 years and 6 months of age. He made his first profession in the Congregation on the 17th October 1920 and was ordained priest on the 19th July 1925. He knew Fr. Dehon in person, and had always kept a live memory of him. He was very much attached to the Congregation and he kept insisting on the mystical and social dimension of our charism. He never missed a single occasion to remind us that Fr. Dehon wanted the religious who would bravely carry out the social work.

He had always worked at Christ the King Parish in Rome as an assistant priest or a Parish Priest. He did a great apostolic work in the Catholic Action Group, of which he was a Diocesan delegate in Rome since he informed the consciences of, and formed many dedicated lay people.

His apostolic zeal, which has been always alive until lately, pushed him to collect some of his "memories" in certain publication, which, among other things describe his close relationships with some Popes, specially from Pio XI to Paul VI. His affectionate devotion to Fr. Dehon can also be seen in his book "Fr. Dehon in Rome."

He was a Procurator General for 7 years, from 1967 to 1974.

According to the norms of our General Directory 69,3 and of the tradition established in our Institute, I invite all the communities to celebrate one Holy Mass for him.

I thank the Lord for the gift he gave us in this confrere and I pray that He receives him in the joy He has prepared for his faithful servants.

Finally, I wish that the example of our senior members contribute in revitalizing the Congregation in its specific mission of oblation and reparatory love, so that the world can reach the light of the Gospel, the fraternity yearned for and the peace which today is in risk.

Après une longue vie dédiée au Sacré-Cœur de Jésus et au service de l'Église comme Prêtre du Sacré-Cœur, est décédé hier à Bolognano notre confrère le p. Beniamino Zambetti.

C'était notre confrère le plus âgé. Il avait 101 ans et 6 mois. Il a fait sa profession dans la Congrégation le 17 octobre 1920 et a été ordonné prêtre le 19 juillet 1925.

Il avait connu personnellement le p. Dehon, dont il a gardé un souvenir toujours vivant. Très attaché à la Congrégation, il tenait à insister sur la dimension mystique et sociale de notre charisme. Il ne perdait aucune occasion pour nous rappeler que le p. Dehon voulait des religieux qui passaient à l'action avec courage dans le domaine social.

Il a toujours travaillé dans la paroisse du Christ Roi à Rome comme vicaire paroissial ou comme curé. Il a exercé un apostolat admirable dans l'Action Catholique, dont il était, à Rome, Délégué Diocésain pendant plusieurs années, parce qu'il tenait à éduquer les consciences et former des laïcs engagés.

Son zèle apostolique, toujours vif jusqu'au dernières années, l'a poussé également à recueillir, dans quelques publications, des "mémoires" qui décrivent, entre autre, ses rapports étroits avec les Papes, en particulier de Pie XI à Paul VI. Son affection dévouée au p. Dehon apparaît également dans son livre "Le Père Dehon à Rome".

Pendant 7 ans, de 1967 à 1974, il a été Procureur Général.

Conformément au n. 69,3 de notre Directoire Général et à la tradition désormais établie dans notre Institut, j'invite toutes les communautés à appliquer une S. Messe pour le repos de son âme.

Je remercie le Seigneur pour le don qu'il nous a fait en nous donnant ce confrère et je Le prie de l'accueillir dans la joie qu'il a préparée pour ses serviteurs bons et fidèles.

Je souhaite, pour terminer, que l'exemple de nos confrères âgés puisse contribuer toujours à redonner force à la Congrégation dans sa mission spécifique d'oblation et d'amour réparateur, pour que le monde trouve la lumière de l'Évangile et la fraternité si désirée et la paix qui aujourd'hui est en danger.

Dopo una lunga vita di donazione al S. Cuore di Gesù e di servizio alla Chiesa come Sacerdote del S. Cuore, ieri è morto a Bolognano il nostro confratello p. Beniamino Zambetti.

Era il nostro confratello più anziano. Aveva 101 anni e 6 mesi di età. Ha professato nella Congregazione il 17 ottobre 1920 ed è stato ordinato il 19 luglio 1925.

Aveva conosciuto personalmente p. Dehon, del quale conservava un ricordo sempre vivo. Era molto attaccato alla Congregazione e ci teneva a insistere sulla dimensione mistica e sociale del nostro carisma. Non perdeva occasione per ricordarci che p. Dehon voleva dei religiosi che attuassero arditamente nel sociale.

Ha sempre lavorato nella Parrocchia di Cristo Re a Roma come Vicario Parrocchiale o come Parroco. Ha svolto un grande apostolato nell'Azione Cattolica, della quale fu, a Roma, per vari anni Delegato diocesano, poiché ci teneva a educare le coscienze e a formare dei laici impegnati.

Il suo zelo apostolico, sempre vivo fino agli ultimi anni, lo ha anche sollecitato a raccogliere, in alcune pubblicazioni, delle "memorie" che descrivono tra l'altro, anche i suoi stretti rapporti con i Papi, specialmente da Pio XI a Paolo VI. Il suo devoto affetto a P. Dehon si riscontra pure nel suo libro "Padre Dehon a Roma".

Per 7 anni, dal 1967 al 1974, è stato Procuratore Generale.

A norma del nostro Direttorio Generale 69,3 e della tradizione ormai stabilita nel nostro Istituto, invito tutte le comunità ad applicare una S. Messa in suo suffragio.

Ringrazio il Signore per il dono che ci ha fatto dandoci questo confratello e Lo prego di riceverlo nella gioia che tiene preparata per i suoi servi buoni e fedeli.

Mi auguro, infine, che l'esempio dei nostri anziani contribuisca sempre a rinvigorire la Congregazione nella sua specifica missione di oblazione e di amore riparatore, perché il mondo raggiunga la luce del Vangelo e la sospirata fratellanza e pace che oggi è a rischio.
