Abbiamo la gioia di comunicare ufficialmente che, dopo 172 giorni dal suo rapimento, P. Giuseppe Pierantoni scj, missionario dehoniano nelle Filippine, oggi è stato rilasciato in libertà.

Il religioso si trova in buone condizioni di salute, anche se stanco per le tensioni, gli spostamenti e la precarietà vissuta in questo tempo. È però sereno e senza alcun sentimento d’animosità per chi gli ha procurato questa dolorosa vicenda.

Per la famiglia di P. Pierantoni, come per noi suoi confratelli e per i nostri missionari nelle Filippine, il tempo del suo sequestro è stato duro; ma è stato anche un momento di grazia, di riflessione, di preghiera e di conferma nella nostra vocazione missionaria. A seguito di tutta una serie di circostanze, crediamo di essere cresciuti nel dialogo interreligioso con i mussulmani. Abbiamo apprezzato molto l’atteggiamento di una parte di loro che, oltre a condannare il fatto del rapimento, hanno indetto tempi speciali di preghiera nelle loro moschee.

La famiglia di P. Pierantoni (gli anziani genitori e una sorella) ha portato questo calvario con una forza eccezionale, sostenuta dalla preghiera e dalla solidarietà di molte persone e comunità cristiane.

Siamo particolarmente riconoscenti alla Chiesa, che è nelle Filippine, e al Vescovo di Pagadian, Mons. Zaccaria Jiménez, che è stato il grande intermediario in questa vicenda. Ringraziamo il Governo delle Filippine per l’attenzione che ha dato a questo caso sin dall’inizio fino alla sua liberazione. Ringraziamo l’Ambasciatore italiano a Manila e a tutte le Autorità e Istituzioni cristiane e mussulmane, filippine, italiane ed estere, che hanno collaborato perché P. Pierantoni fosse rilasciato in libertà, sano e salvo. Siamo riconoscenti per l’interessamento effettivo del Governo italiano e della Comunità Europea.

Ringraziamo per la solidarietà espressa da tante persone, gruppi e istituzioni, membri della Chiesa e della società civile, che ci sono stati vicini con l’incoraggiamento, la condivisione delle nostre preoccupazioni, il sostegno fraterno e la preghiera.

Abbiamo sentito particolarmente vicini il Santo Padre, informato personalmente dal Padre Generale; come pure tanti Cardinali, Vescovi, Sacerdoti, membri della Vita Consacrata e molti laici.

Un grazie speciale, per il loro interessamento, all’Unione Superiori Generali, al sito Vidimus Dominum e all’agenzia MISNA.

Il risultato positivo di questo evento è certamente, in primo luogo, opera della grazia di Dio, a cui va ogni gloria e lode; ma è stata anche opera della solidarietà di tante persone, che hanno contribuito, ognuna secondo le proprie possibilità. Crediamo che la vicenda in sé, e il modo come è stata gestita, hanno fatto crescere il senso di quella fraternità universale, che Dio richiede dai suoi figli, superando ogni barriera di divisione.

We are pleased to officially announce that, after 172 days after his abduction, Fr. Giuseppe Pierantoni scj, missionary in the Philippines, was released today.

He was found to be in good condition, though exhausted from the tensions, the movements and the precarious situation in which he found himself. He is, however, in good condition and bears no animosity against those who put him through this difficult ordeal.

For Fr. Pierantoni's family, as well as his scj conferrers and fellow missionaries in the Philippines, the time of his confinement has been difficult; but also a moment of grace, of reflection, of prayer and of confirmation in our missionary vocation. A consequence of these circumstances, we believe, is the strengthening of the inter religious dialogue with the Muslim community. We have appreciated their stance, besides condemning this abduction, they have held special times of prayer in their mosques.

The family of P. Pierantoni (his elderly parents and a sister) has carried this cross with an exceptional fortitude, supported by the prayers and support of a lot of people and the Christian community.

We are especial grateful to the Church in the Philippines, and to the Bishop of Pagadian, Mons. Zaccaria Jiménez, who assumed the role as the intermediary in this event. We thank the Government of the Philippine for the attention they have given to this case from his first day of captivity to his liberation. We thank the Italian Ambassador to Manila, and to all the authorities and institutions both Christian and Muslim, in the Philippines, Italy and other countries, that have collaborated in bringing about Fr. Pierantoni release in good health and safety. We also would like to recognize the special interest taken by the Italian Government and the European Union in this matter.

We also wish to thank the many persons, groups and institutions, members of the Church and civil society, who have expressed their solidarity and encouragement, sharing our worries and sustaining us with their prayers.

We have felt very close to the Holy Father, having informed him personally of the situation, as well as many cardinals, bishops, priests, religious and laity. A very special note of gratitude, for their interest, to the members of the Union of Superior Generals (USG), to the internet site Vidimus Dominum and to the news agency MISNA.

The happy outcome is certainly, in the first place the work of God's grace, to who goes all glory and praise, but it is also the work of many persons working together, each according to his or her ability, who have contributed, to it. We believe that the event itself, and the manner in which it was managed, has helped to deepen the sense of universal fraternity, that God asks for from His sons and daughters, surpassing every barrier of division.
