Ya pasaron algunas semanas en que no hemos tenido contacto con Uds. Mañana vendrá p.Teo por aquí y podemos saber un poco más de Uds en Santiago y alrededores, del conti, como dicen los Chilotes. Por supuesto tenemos nuestro flamante Juan Gamboa como consejero, que nos informe también, pero si vendrá el superior la recibimos de primero mano.

Aquí supimos que nuestro gobierno nos ayudará a mantener las 14 iglesias de Chiloé que fueron declarado parte del Patrimonio de la Humanidad en Diciembre del año pasado en una sessión del "World Heritage Commitee" en Australia, dependiendo de la UNESCO en Paris. Quiero contar un poco más sobre el significado de este reconocimiento. Es importante el reconocimieto y el aporte del ministerio de Educación para la mantención de estas 14 iglesias, pero uno de los bobjetivos de la declaración no es simplemente la construcción de las iglesias sino el esfuerzo de la comunidad local en construir juntos el templo, lo que aquí llamamos "La Minga". Quiero citar una parte de la entrevista de nuestro obispo sobre esto. " Es fundamental tener muy claron que lo que se pretende conservar no es solamente el objeto con el que la comunidad se expresa, sino lo que vive la comunidad con esa expresión. Los edificios, los templos en nuestro caso, son objetos hechos por personasy expresan una forma de vivir y actuar. Si yo miro solamnete el edificio, sin preocuparme de la comunidad que lo ha construido, es decir, si no me fijo en lo que el templo es para la comunidad puedo actuar en forma opuesta y producir un efecto negativo. Se ha de tener en cuenta que estos edificios han sido construidos por la comunidad, siguiendo la tradición de la "Minga", es decir, actuando todos con una actitud muy fuerte de solidaridad, aportando cada uno según sus cualidades y posibilidades."

Cuando llegó aquí a Chiloé un acquitecto de Venezuela, encargagado por la UNESCO, para evaluar las iglesias, coincidió con el 31 de agosto, la gran fiesta de "Jesús Nazareno" de Cahuach. Invitado a participar y viendo la gente llegando en lanchas y botes de todas partes y la devoción y las ceremonias, dijo al obispo que ha visto suficiento, esto es lo que quiería ver, esta fe es capaz a construir las iglesias de Chiloé.

Tenemos en este momento buen tiempo con algunos dias de sol, despues de varias semanas de lluvias y de frio. La gente le llama "el Veranito de San Juan".Todos los años alrededor de estos dias alrededor del 24 de junio, la fiesta del nacimiento de San Juan Bautista, podemos gozar unos días de sol y de buen tiempo, como una pauza al largo invierno del sur.

También vamos a celebrar la "Noche de San Juan", el 23 de junio en la noche habrán comidas especiales con musica chilote, muchas veces con algún beneficio social. Este año la Municipalidad de Ancud organizará en el Lyceo Municipal una gran convivencia con comidas y bailes para la mantención de la escuela.

Hoy es día domingo, la misa de la tarde será animado por la Infancia Misionera, un movimiento de niños, que mundialmente se forman para compartir su fe y ser misioneros en su lugar. En este momento tenemos una decena de capillas y comunidades con Infancia Misionera. Especialmente despues de la primera comunión los niños queden un poco solos y este movimiento les ayude a continuar su formación que posteriormente se desemboca en la preparación al sacramento de confirmación.

Many weeks have passed without my writing. Tomorrow, Fr. Teo will come here and we'll know something about your visit to Santiago and surrounding area of the "conti" (continent), as the "Chilotes" say. Of course, we have our new counselor Juan Gamboa, and he could tell us, but if the superior is coming we'll have firsthand news.

Here, we know the government will help us with the support for the 14 churches of Chiloé that were declared part of the World Heritage last December in a session of the "World Heritage Committee" in Australia, that is an arm of UNESCO in Paris. I want to tell you something else about the significance of this recognition. It is important for the contribution of Education Ministry to support these 14 churches, but one of the objectives of the declaration is not, simply, the construction of the churches but the effort of the local community in building together the shrine, that here is called "La Minga". I want to mention the interview with our bishop on this topic. "It's fundamental to be very clear that the thing that we want to create is not only the material thing that the community uses to express itself, but that the community lives this expression. The buildings, the shrines in our case, are objects made by persons and they express one way to live and to act. If I only watch the building without watching the community that made it; if I don't give attention to the fact that the shrine is for the community, I can act in a opposite way and provoke a negative effect. It is necessary to take into consideration that these buildings have been built by the community, following the 'Minga' tradition. It's all the people acting in solidarity each depending on the gifts and talents of the other."

When an architect from Venezuela, in charge of the UNESCO of the evaluation the churches, arrived in Chiloé last August 31st on the feast of "Jesús Nazareno" of Cahuach, he was invited to participate in the festivities. and watching the people arriving by boats and ships from everywhere, and the devotion and the ceremonies, he told the bishop that he understood that the people's faith had the power to build the churches of Chiloé.

Right now we have good weather with sunny days, after several weeks of rain and cold. The people call this time "el Veranito de San Juan" (the little summer of St. John). Every year, in the days around June 24th, (St. John the Baptist feast) we enjoy sunny days and good weather, a real break in the long southern winter.

We are going to celebrate the "Noche de San Juan" (St. John's night) too. On June 23rd we are going to have special meals with "chilote" music. This year, the municipality of Ancud is going to organize a great gathering with food and dancing in the municipal gym to raise funds for the school.

Today is Sunday. The mass is going to be about the Missionary Children, a movement of children from around the world who are been educated to share their faith and to be missionaries in their own towns. We have around ten chapels and communities involved with the Missionary Childhood movement. Especially, after their first communion, the children are alone and this movement helps them to continue their formation which in turn helps them in preparation for the confirmation.

Ovviamente abbiamo il nostro fiammante Juan Gamboa come consigliere che ci informa, ma se verrà il superiore riceviamo le notizie di prima mano.

Qui abbiamo saputo che il nostro governo ci aiuterà a mantenere le 14 chiese di Chiloé che sono state dichiarate parte del Patrimonio dell'Umanità nel dicembre dell'anno scorso in una sessione del World Heritage Commitee in Australia, che dipende dall'Unesco di Parigi. Voglio raccontare qualcosa di più circa il significato di questo riconoscimento. È importante per il contributo del ministero della Educazione per il mantenimento di queste 14 chiese, ma uno degli obiettivi della dichiarazione non è soltanto la costruzione delle chiese bensì lo sforzo della comunità locale nel costruire insieme il tempio, che qui è chiamata "La Minga". Voglio citare una parte dell'intervista del nostro vescovo su questo punto. "È fondamentale avere ben chiaro che quello che si vuole conservare non è solamente l'oggetto col quale la comunità si esprime, bensì quello che la comunità vive con quell'espressione. Gli edifici, i templi nel nostro caso, sono oggetti fatti da persone che esprimono una forma di vivere ed agire. Se io guardo solamente l'edificio, senza preoccuparmi cioè della comunità che l'ha costruito, se non faccio attenzione a quello che il tempio è per la comunità, posso agire in forma opposta e produrre un effetto negativo. Si deve tenere presente che questi edifici sono stati costruiti per la comunità, seguendo la tradizione della Minga, cioè, agendo tutti con un atteggiamento molto forte di solidarietà, dando un apporto ciascuno secondo le sue qualità e possibilità".

Quando è arrivato qui a Chiloé un architetto dal Venezuela, incaricato dall'Unesco, per valutare le chiese, era 31 agosto, la gran festa di "Gesù Nazareno" di Cahuach. È stato invitato a partecipare alla festa e, vedendo la gente arrivare con barche e scialuppe da ogni parte, la devozione e le cerimonie, disse al vescovo che aveva visto quanto bastava, tutto quello che desiderava vedere: una fede capace di costruire le chiese di Chiloé.

In questo periodo abbiamo bel tempo, con alcuni giorni di sole, dopo varie settimane di piogge e di freddo. La gente lo chiama l'Estate di San Giovanni .Tutti gli anni, nei giorni attorno al 24 di giugno, la festa della nascita di San Giovanni Battista, possiamo godere di alcune giornate di sole e di bel tempo, come una pausa al lungo inverno del sud.

Stiamo per celebrare la Notte di San Giovanni. Nella notte del 23 giugno avremo cibi speciali con musica chilote.. Quest'anno la Municipalità di Ancud organizzerà nel Liceo Municipale una grande festa con cibi e balli per la manutenzione della scuola.

Oggi è domenica: la messa del pomeriggio sarà dedicata all'Infanzia Missionaria, un movimento di bambini, di tutto il mondo, che vengono educati a condividere la fede ed essere missionari nelle loro città. In questo momento abbiamo una decina di cappelle e comunità coinvolte nel movimento Infanzia Missionaria. Specialmente dopo la prima comunione i bambini rimangano un po' abbandonati e questo movimento li aiuta a continuare la loro formazione che poi sbocca nella preparazione al sacramento della cresima.
