Chers Confrères, chers Amis,

Nous sommes bien contents de profiter de l'Internet pour faire arriver à chacun de vous nous vœux d'une Bonne et Joyeuse Fête de Noël (la dernière du siècle). L'Enfant Jésus donne à chacun en abondance la paix et la joie qu'il est venu répandre sur le monde.

Nos vœux aussi pour la Nouvelle Année et pour le nouveau Millénaire. Une année à vivre en plénitude et un millénaire à savourer pour le temps que à chacun de nous sera donné de le vivre. Surtout l'Année Sainte soit pour chacun de nous ce que le Pape Jean-Paul Il souhaitait quand il l'a annoncée "un année de conversion, de repentir, de charité et de paix" (Tertio millennio adveniente).

Nous profitons aussi pour vous donner des nouvelles de nous tous. Cette année la communauté a encore augmenté. Actuellement nous sommes 30. Les philosophes continuent avec nous parce que la situation dans la RDC déconseille encore leur transfert au Scolasticat de Kisangani. Notre maison est au complet. Et c'est pour cela que nous sommes en train de construire un nouveau bâtiment pour 20 chambres en plus. Si par hasard, ceux qui sont au noviciat actuellement ne partent pas l’année prochaine pour Kisangani, ils nous tomberont sur le bras et nous serons obligés de les accueillir. Et il y aura aussi quelque confrères du Cameroun et de la RDC qui doivent venir pour commencer leur théologie. Peut-être que encore aussi des Mozambicains se rejoindront à nous. Pour nous préparer à accueillir tout ce monde, nous agrandissons notre maison. De toute façon, si le nombre des aspirants, des postulants et des novices se maintient sur la moyenne actuelle, d'ici trois ou quatre années la construction s'imposait quand même. La situation de la RDC nous a seulement obligé à anticiper la construction.

Le chantier est très actif, la maison commence à prendre la forme, le premier étage est presque terminé, et le P. Gravejat, le responsable de la construction, fait le possible pour bien conduire les choses. Pour le moment nous ne pouvons pas faire des prévisions, mais il serait bien que la nouvelle construction soit habitable pour octobre 2000. Nous l'espérons, parce que autrement il faudra mettre quelqu'un dormir en bas des manguiers.!

Nous voulons profiter pour remercier encore une fois tous ceux qui nous ont aidés à démarrer le chantier et qui nous aideront à le terminer : les Confrères d'Allemagne, du Canada, d'Espagne, le gouvernement Générale, et tous les autres bienfaiteurs qui d'une façonne souvent discrète, et même anonyme, nous aident avec beaucoup de générosité. Que le Seigneur Lui même donne à chacun la juste récompense.

Dear Confreres and Friends,

We are taking advantage of the Internet to send all of you our good wishes for Christmas (the last of this century) and the New Year/Millennium. May it be a year of life lived to the full, and may we enjoy to the most that part of the new millennium which is allotted to us. Above all, may the Holy Year be for each one of us what Pope John Paul hoped for when he proclaimed it: 'a year of conversion, repentance, charity and peace' (TMA).

We take this opportunity to give you some news of ourselves. This year our community has again increased in number. There are now 30 of us. The philosophers are still here, since the situation in the Congo dissuades us from sending them on to the scholasticate in Kisangani. The house is full, and this finds us in the midst of putting up a new building, which should give us 20 more rooms. Should those who are now in the novitiate not leave for Kisangani next year they will have to come to us and be our responsibility. There will also be some Cameroun confreres as well as some from the Congo who are due to come to start their theology. There could well also be some from Mozambique. That is why we have to develop our building. If the number of aspirants, postulants and novices remains at the present average, in 3 or 4 years time we shall have to carry out the building programme in any case. The situation in the Congo has merely brought this building programme forward.

The site is a hive of activity, the house is taking shape, the first floor is almost finished and Fr Gravejat, the works manager, is doing all he can to keep things right. Just now it is hard to forecast exactly, but it could well be that the new building is habitable by October 2000. If not, some will have to sleep out under the mango trees!

Once again, we want to express our gratitude to all who helped us get the building started, and those who will help towards its completion: our confreres in Germany, Canada, Spain, the General Administration and all the other benefactors who, often in quiet ways, even anonymously, help us with great generosity. May the Lord reward them as he knows best.

Siamo ben contenti di poter utilizzare Internet per far giungere a ciascuno di voi i nostri auguri di un Buon e Felice Natale (l'ultimo del secolo). Il Bambino Gesù doni a ciascuno in abbondanza la pace e la gioia che egli è venuto a portare nel mondo.

I nostri auguri si estendono anche un Nuovo Anno e al Nuovo Millennio. Un anno da vivere in pienezza e un millennio da assaporare per il tempo che a ciascuno di noi sarà dato di vivere. Soprattutto l'Anno Santo sia per ciascuno di noi ciò che il Papa Giovanni Paolo II augurava al momento del suo annuncio: "un anno di conversione, di pentimento, di carità e di pace" (Tertio Millennio adveniente).

Noi approfittiamo anche per darvi notizie di noi tutti. Quest'anno la comunità è ancora aumentata. Attualmente siamo in 30. I filosofi continuano con noi perché la situazione nella RDC sconsiglia ancora un loro trasferimento allo Scolasticato di Kisangani. La nostra casa è al completo. Ed è per questo che noi stiamo costruendo un nuovo edificio con 20 camere in più. Se per caso quelli che sono al noviziato attualmente non partiranno per Kisangani l'anno prossimo, ci verranno a cadere addosso e saremo costretti ad accoglierli. Ci saranno anche dei confratelli del Camerun e della RDC che devono venire per cominciare la teologia. Può darsi anche che dei Mozambicani si uniscano a noi. Per prepararci ad accogliere tutta questa gente, noi ingrandiamo la nostra casa. In ogni modo, se il numero degli aspiranti, dei postulanti e dei novizi si mantiene sulla media attuale, da qui a tre o quattro anni le costruzioni dovrebbero essere comunque fatte. La situazione della RDC ci ha solo obbligati ad anticipare la costruzione.

Il cantiere è molto attivo, la casa comincia a prendere forma, il primo piano è quasi terminato e P. Gravejat, il responsabile della costruzione, fa il possibile per portare avanti bene le cose. Per il momento non possiamo fare previsioni, ma sarebbe bene che la nuova costruzione si potesse inaugurare per ottobre 2000. Noi lo speriamo perché altrimenti si dovrà mettere qualcuno a dormire sotto gli alberi di mango!

Vogliano approfittare per ringraziare ancora una volta tutti quelli che ci hanno aiutato a cominciare il cantiere e che ci aiuteranno a terminarlo: i confratelli di Germania, Canada, Spagna, il Direttivo Generale, e tutti gli altri benefattori che, spesso in modo discreto e anche anonimo, ci aiutano con molta generosità. Che il Signore Lui stesso dia a ciascuno la giusta ricompensa.
