The US Province recently published a report by Jack Kurps (US) on his recent visit to Brazil. He accompanied Tom Cassidy (CU) to meet with the Claudio Weber, provincial superior, and other members of the South Brazil Province regarding next August's planned Congregational Vocation Conference. In addition to this report an expanded version will appear in Horizon Magazine, a U.S. national vocation periodical. The article in English can be accessed here: August: Vocations Month in Brazil Reflections on a recent trip to South Brazil. Many thanks to Jose Ornelas Carvalho (LU) for passing on news of events in Portugal. In his email message he wrote the following:
In the attached file you will find some news from the Portuguese Province. This is intended to be just my "fraternal" recognition of your work of sharing information with us, using new technologies. We should soon have Internet and Email here at home, at the Scholasticate, in Alfragide. Meanwhile my personal facility through the server of the University, accessible from home, can be a contact. I hope in the future our students can co-operate in translation and contacts for the Portuguese language
Editors Note: We very much appreciate receiving news of this kind as we feel it is of interest to the entire congregation. It is difficult to keep up with events taking place in 36 countries making it all the more important for individual scjs to take the time to pass on local information.
The North American provincial and regional councils met last week in Montréal. This was the first opportunity for the group to meet since the changes in local administrations, and the change in status of French Canada.North European provincials met in Brussels to prepare for the November meeting of major superiors in Rome.
The British-Irish Province held it's annual fall meetings at Malpas last week. The first day was devoted to an All England Assembly (both Scotland and Ireland had held their gatherings earlier). The purpose of this assembly was described in the province bulletin as follows:
Each apostolate/community will be invited to give a short resume of their work and invite creative suggestions for the future, in this way moving towards a vision of our continuing presence in England. We will also be discussing our Promotions and realize that, because the office is based in England, this will have an impact elsewhere would could be taken up later in the Provincial Assembly.
