I am Paul Tiragalo Ntwe. I was born in Botswana in a town called Lobatse. I and my twin brother are the eldest children in our family.

My vocation to the priesthood (not yet religious life because I did not know about religious life at that time) started when I was in great need of assistance and called on my parish priest for help. He worked alone in the parish and had been called away to visit a sick parishioner when I arrived to see him. He retuned about two hours later and greeted me saying "I cannot do all these things alone - I need someone to help me". Since then, and even today his words echo and re-echo in my mind and heart, and this was the beginning of my desire to become a priest.

I started attending vocation workshops which introduced me to religious life, and I realized that religious life is bound up with community life and required obedience to the vows. With the guidance of the Holy Spirit, I decided to become a religious.

In my country, Botswana, we have no SCJ community and I first learned of them from a Catholic Newspaper. Their logo in the newspaper read as follows "For the people with Christ. He has no other hands but yours, No other voice but yours, no other heart but yours, and we the SCJs try to give Him ours." I was deeply touched by these words and they motivated me to join the SCJs.

The other attraction to the Priests of the Sacred Heart was their charism, their devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus, reparation and everyday adoration. I was also attracted by the simple and modest life style practiced by the Priests of the Sacred Heart of Jesus.

My desire to become a member of the Priests of the Sacred Heart of Jesus was further strengthen by Fr. Dehon's expectations of his religious - that they be "Prophets of love and servants of reconciliation."
 
 

Mi chiamo Paul Tiragalo Ntwe. Sono nato nel Botswana, in una città chiamata Lobatse. Io e mio fratello gemello siamo i più anziani nella nostra famiglia.

La mia vocazione al sacerdozio (non ancora alla vita religiosa perché a quel tempo non conoscevo la vita religiosa) risale a quando fui in grave necessità e feci chiamare il prete della mia parrocchia. Egli lavorava da solo in parrocchia ed era stato chiamato a visitare un parrocchiano ammalato. Ritornò due ore più tardi e salutandomi mi disse: "Non ce la faccio a fare tutto questo da solo - Ho bisogno che qualcuno mi aiuti". Da allora, e ancora oggi, quelle parole continuarono a risuonarmi dentro nella mente e nel cuore e così iniziò il mio desiderio di farmi sacerdote.

Cominciai a lavorare per la mia vocazione e scoprii la vita religiosa; mi accorsi che la vita religiosa è legata alla vita di comunità e richiede l'obbedienza ai voti. Sotto la guida dello Spirito Santo, decisi di farmi religioso.

Nella mia patria, il Botswana, non ci sono comunità SCJ e ne fui informato da un giornale cattolico. Il loro logo, nel giornale, diceva: "Per il popolo con Cristo. Egli non ha altre mani se non le tue mani. Non ha altra voce se non la tua voce. Non ha altro cuore se non il tuo cuore e noi gli SCJ cerchiamo di dare il nostro cuore a Lui". Fui fortemente toccato da queste parole che furono il motivo per cui mi unii a loro.

L'altro aspetto di attrazione verso i Sacerdoti del S. Cuore fu il loro carisma, la devozione al S. Cuore di Gesù, la riparazione e l'adorazione quotidiana. Fui attratto anche dal semplice e modesto stile di vita, praticato dai Sacerdoti del S. Cuore.

Il mio desiderio di diventare un membro dei Sacerdoti del S. Cuore di Gesù è reso più acuto da ciò che P. Dehon attende dai suoi religiosi &emdash; che essi siano "Profeti dell'amore e servitori della riconciliazione".

Minha vocação ao sacerdócio começou quando pedi socorro ao pároco porque estávamos em grande necessidade. Ele morava sozinho e tinha saído para atender a um doente. Umas duas horas depois ele voltou e disse: "Não posso fazer tudo isso sozinho. Preciso de um auxiliar". Desde então estas palavras passaram a ressoar no meus ouvidos e no meu coração nasceu o desejo de ser padre. Mais tarde é que fui tomar conhecimento da vida religiosa.

Comecei participando de encontros vocacionais que me fizeram conhecer a vida religiosa. O que me atraiu nela era a vida comunitária. Assim, sob a força do Espírito Santo decidi fazer-me religioso.

Não há nenhuma comunidade dehoniana em meu país, Botswana. Ouvi falar deles por primeiro, foi num jornal católico. O emblema deles estava no jornal e a frase dizia: "Pelo povo, com Cristo. Ele não tem outras mãos senão as suas, outra voz, senão a sua, outro coração, senão o seu, e nós, dehonianos, tentamos dar o nosso a ele". Fiquei muito impressionado por estas palavras e me motivei a ser dehoniano.

Outro atrativo da Congregação foi seu carisma, a devoção ao Coração de Jesus, a reparação e a adoração diária. Fui atraído também pelo modo de vida simples dos dehonianos.

Meu desejo de ser membro da congregação foi fortalecido pelas palavras de P. expectativas de P.Dehon de que seus religiosos fossem "profetas do amor e servidores da reconciliação".
