IT - L’Istituto San Giovanni di San Quintino e la Congregazione sono nate insieme, insieme nel corso degli anni sono cresciute: mediante le prove, nel fervore e nella gioia di una comunione intensa tra Padre Dehon, i professori, gli allievi e la grande famiglia del collegio. Un piccolo giornale “L’Aigle de Saint-Jean”, come pure l’“Amicale des anciens élèves”, attestano la relazione tutta fatta di venerazione e amicizia, di educazione alla responsabilità e alla solidarietà, che unisce P. Dehon ai suoi cari “anciens”. L’“Amicale” si raduna una volta l’anno: P. Dehon ama essere presente ogni volta che gli è possibile e lo ascoltano volentieri. Così pure l’8 settembre 1907: pronuncia Un importante discorso, che è una delle espressioni più rappresentative della personalità del nostro Fondatore.

EN - The Congregation and the Institute of St. John, in San Quentin, were born together and, over the years, grew up together: through trials, and with the fervor and joy of an intense communion between Father Dehon, the professors, the students and the great family of the College. A little newspaper “L’Aigle de Saint-Jean” (“The Eagle of St. John”), as well as the “Amicale des anciens élèves” (“Alumni Association”), bear witness to this relationship - based on veneration and friendship, and on training for responsibility and solidarity - which united Fr. Dehon to his dear “anciens”. The “Amicale” met once a year: Fr. Dehon liked to be present whenever he could and he listened to them gladly. This was the situation when, on September 8, 1907, he delivered an important speech, now considered to be one of the most representative expressions of the personality of our founder.

IT - P. Dehon esorta i suoi ascoltatori a impegnarsi per difendere la dignità della classe operaia e le sue legittime aspirazioni: partecipazione nelle decisioni sul proprio futuro, governo democratico, libertà d’associazione, giustizia sociale, progresso politico ed economico. La Repubblica ormai è un fatto da accettare con fiducia, inutile aggrapparsi a schemi superati. La Chiesa, da parte sua, può e deve recuperare la fiducia del popolo, perché la sua dottrina contiene i germi del progresso sociale.

EN - Fr. Dehon urged his listeners to commit themselves to defend the dignity of the working class and its legitimate aspirations: participation in the decisions for its future, realization of a democratic government with freedom of association, social justice, political and economic progress. By then the Republic was a fact to be accepted with trust; it was useless to clutch at schemes which were no longer relevant. The Church, for its part, could and had to recover the trust of the people, for its doctrine contains the seeds of social progress.

FR - La vie religieuse doit être un cri de protestation et d’espérance pour donner à l’homme d’aujourd’hui un visage plus humain et plus solidaire. Après la description de sa propre expérience vécue en différents pays en état de guerre et l’analyse de la politique des États-Unis et ses conséquences manichéennes, l’auteur examine avec beaucoup de perspicacité six positions différentes face à la guerre actuellement en cours. Promouvoir la culture de la paix nous oblige à penser, sentir, prier, agir et éduquer à la participation politique et au dialogue.

EN - The religious life should be a cry of protest and hope, to present the man of today with a face which is more human and ever more in solidarity. After describing his own experience of living in a state of war in various countries, and analyzing the policy of the United States and its Manichean consequences, the author examines, with great perspicacity, six different positions regarding the war currently in progress. Promoting the culture of peace obliges us to think, feel, pray and act, as well as to educate people to enter into political participation and dialogue.

FR - Au principe de la « raison de la force » le P. Marroquín préfère celui de la « force de la raison ». Les jalons du chemin vers une justice internationale, face aux états gendarmes, ne peuvent être que la défense des droits civils, le refus de la course aux armements et le oui tout court au dialogue des religions et civilisations. Un dialogue imaginatif qui, sans humilier personne, cherche à atteindre l’objectif commun de la vie solidaire, édifiée dans la paix et la justice. Face au pacifisme naïf, la tâche la plus urgente c’est d’éduquer à la paix.

EN - Fr. Marroquin prefers the principle of the “might of reason” to that of the “right of might”. When one is faced with police states, the landmarks along the road towards international justice can be none other than defending civil rights, rejecting the arms race and insisting on a dialogue between religions and civilizations - an imaginative dialogue which, without humiliating anyone, seeks to obtain the common objective of a life in solidarity, forged out of peace and justice. Faced with naive pacifism, the most urgent task at hand is to educate for peace.

IT - Non si può parlare di riconciliazione senza riconoscere prima tutta la verità di quanto è successo l’11 settembre 2001, chiamando le cose per il loro nome, e senza ristabilire la giustizia mediante la punizione adeguata dei colpevoli. Di conseguenza, è un diritto e un dovere rendere l’aggressore incapace di nuocere di nuovo nel futuro.

FR - On ne peut parler de réconciliation sans reconnaître préalablement toute la vérité sur ce qui s’est passé le 11 septembre 2001, en appelant les choses par leur nom, et sans rétablir la justice, moyennant la punition appropriée des coupables. C’est donc un droit et un devoir de rendre l’agresseur hors d’état de nuire de nouveau à l’avenir.

FR - L’auteur, tout en condamnant clairement le grave attentat terroriste perpétré le 11 septembre passé, s’interroge sur l’utilité de la guerre actuellement en cours en Afghanistan et la justification de la guerre en général. Ne serait-il pas temps de prendre sérieusement en considération l’alternative de la Défense Populaire non violente, organisée par une ONU radicalement réformée ?

EN - The author, while clearly condemning the grave terrorist attack perpetrated on last September 11th, asks himself about the utility of the war currently going on in Afghanistan and the justification for war in general. Would this not be the time to seriously consider the alternative of a non-violent “Défense Populaire”, organized by a radically reformed UN organization?

FR - La conférence fait ressortir quelques aperçus qui concernent en particulier la vocation et la mission des Laïcs dehoniens. Le P. Dehon montre d’être allé à la « racine » du Mystère de l’Incarnation quand, se référant à l’Oblation du Verbe et de Marie, il nous dira, dans le Directoire Spirituel (n. 8) : - Dans l’Ecce Venio et l’Ecce Ancilla se trouvent toute notre vocation, notre but, notre mission, notre engagement spirituel et apostolique.

EN - This article brings up some observations which particularly concern the vocation and the mission of Dehonian laity. Fr. Dehon showed that he had gone to the “root” of the Mystery of the Incarnation when, in referring to the Oblation of the Word and of Mary, he tells us, in the Spiritual Directory (no.8): All our vocation, our objective, our mission, our spiritual and apostolic commitment is to be found in the Ecce Venio and the Ecce Ancilla.

Glanzzeit und Ende einer - Karriere in der Christlichen Demokratie Léon Dehon im „Fonds Tiberghien” (Lille) 91

IT - La scoperta di nuovi documenti relativi a P. Dehon consente in parte di farsi una nuova idea di diversi suoi impegni. Il presente articolo si basa su documenti del Fondo Tiberghien esaminati nell’archivio diocesano di Lille (Francia Settentrionale). Permettono di seguire l’ascensione di p. Dehon nella Democrazia Cristiana a partire dal 1897. Chiamato da Mons. Tiberghien a mansioni superiori nella Democrazia Cristiana, p. Dehon raggiunge la fine della sua carriera nel cattolicesimo sociale esattamente nel momento in cui, attorno al 1900, il Sant’Ufficio si occupa di nuovo del suo dossier.

FR - La découverte de nouveaux documents concernant le P. Dehon donne en partie une nouvelle vision de différents engagements de Dehon. Le présent article se base sur des documents du Fonds Tiberghien, examinés aux archives diocésaines de Lille (nord de la France). Ils permettent de suivre l’ascension de Dehon dans la Démocratie Chrétienne à partir de 1897. Appelé par Mgr Tiberghien à des tâches supérieures dans la Démocratie Chrétienne, Dehon arrive à la fin de sa carrière dans le catholicisme social exactement au moment où, autour de 1900, le Saint-Office s’occupe à nouveau de son dossier.

EN - The discovery of new documents concerning Fr. Dehon sheds some light on a new view of Dehon’s different commitments. The present article is based on the documents of the Fondo Tiberghien which were examined in the Diocesan archives of Lille (Northern France). They allow us to follow Dehon’s rise in Christian Democracy, starting from 1897. Called by Msgr. Tiberghien to higher tasks within Christian Democracy, Dehon came to the end of his career in social Catholicism precisely at the moment when, around 1900, the Holy Office decided to study his dossier once again.

IT - Il Direttore del Collegio scj “Leoninum” di Handrup spiega il significato profondo del pellegrinaggio della sua comunità scolastica a Santiago de Compostela alla luce del progetto di formazione integrale della persona umana, tanto caro al p. Dehon. Il “Camino” è diventato come uno specchio della vita stessa degli alunni, alla ricerca della propria identità, del senso dell’esistenza, nel quadro di un’affascinante avventura con Dio. Questa esperienza ha dato loro l’occasione di riprendere coscienza delle radici cristiane della cultura occidentale e confrontarsi con la sfida di dare un cuore al mondo di oggi.

FR - Le Directeur du Collège scj « Leoninum » de Handrup explique la signification profonde du pèlerinage de sa communauté scolastique à Santiago de Compostela à la lumière du projet de formation intégrale de la personne humaine, si cher au p. Dehon. Le « Camino » est devenu une espèce di miroir de la vie même des étudiants, à la recherche de leur propre identité, du sens de l’existence, dans le cadre d’une aventure fascinante avec Dieu. Cette expérience leur a donné l’occasion de reprendre conscience des racines chrétiennes de la culture occidentale et de relever le défi de donner un cœur au monde d’aujourd’hui.

EN - The Director of the S.C.J. College “Leoninum” in Handrup explains the deep significance of the pilgrimage his scholastic community made to Santiago of Compostela, in the light of the plan so dear to Fr. Dehon: the integral formation of the human person. Their “Path” has become like a mirror, showing us the very life of the students as they search for their own identity and for the meaning of existence, all in the framework of a fascinating adventure with God. This experience gave them the chance to renew their awareness of the Christian roots of Western culture, and to take up the challenge of giving a heart to the world of today.

FR - En accordant une importance particulière au regard de la foi (cfr Lc 5,1-11), les participants au cours de FP ont analysé le phénomène de la globalisation et se sont interrogés sur la position actuelle de l’Église à ce sujet. Le vécu des religieux dans l’Église de l’Italie du Sud et le vécu des Églises locales ont servi de point de départ pour formuler une réponse concrète moyennant le témoignage d’un membre de la Communauté de Sant’Egidio. À la fin du parcours, chaque confrère a pu toucher des mains les effets de la globalisation dans sa vie personnelle, communautaire et de Province.

EN - In giving particular importance with respect to faith (Cf. Lk 5:1-11), the participants, during a course of Ongoing Formation, analyzed the phenomenon of globalization and questioned themselves on the current position of the Church on this subject. The life of the religious within the Church of Southern Italy, and the ongoing events of the local Churches, served as a point of departure for the formulation of a concrete response, arrived at by means of the witness of a member of the Community of St. Egidio. By the end of their studies each brother could give his own ‘hands-on’ experience of the effects globalization has had on his personal, community and provincial life.

Lo scambio: un’alternativa economica al di fuori del mercato ufficiale 123

FR - Le terme « trueque » est utilisé en Argentine pour désigner tout un réseau d’échange entre la population pauvre, en majorité sans travail. L’argent est remplacé par des « crédits » qui ont une valeur déterminée pour acquérir d’autres biens ou des services. C’est un système redécouvert par les pauvres en Argentine et qui les a aidés à survivre dans la récente crise économique de ce pays. L’article nous parle du mécanisme du troc et de la présence de la Congrégation dans ce domaine.

EN - The word “trueque” (barter) is used in Argentina to designate a whole network of exchange utilized by the poor population, most of which is unemployed. Money is replaced by “credits” which have a specific value for the acquisition of other goods or services. This is a system which the poor in Argentina rediscovered and which helped them to survive during the country’s recent economic crisis. The article speaks of the mechanics of barter and of the presence of the Congregation in this development.

FR - Cette interview relate les défis dramatiques que la situation actuelle lance à l’Église et aux religieux scj, ainsi que leurs efforts pour y répondre. Sont exposées de même les lignes d’action de la Province Zaïroise en vue d’incarner le charisme dehonien dans le monde congolais et, pour terminer, le climat d’espérance qui, malgré tout, continue à soutenir notre présence au Congo.

EN - This interview recounts the dramatic challenges which the current situation has launched at the Church and at the S.C.J. religious, as well as their efforts to respond to them. After being shown the lines of action taken by the Province of Zaire, with a view to incarnating the Dehonian charism in the Congolese world, we are made aware of the climate of hope which, in spite of everything, continues to sustain our presence in the Congo.

Formation to SCJ Mission in India 137

IT - Partendo dal significato della missione SCJ in India, l’autore cerca di individuare i passi per una formazione incarnata degli SCJ. Questa formazione inculturata passa per la scoperta dei valori spirituali del popolo indiano, così come per la coscienza dei problemi economici e culturali vissuti da questo popolo. Questo processo formativo, esigente verso i dehoniani, sarà frutto di una esperienza di fede che ispirerà i formatori ad essere misericordiosi, santi e a vivere armonicamente in comunità. Dovranno essere più dei modelli di vita cristiana e religiosa che dei maestri.

FR - Prenant comme point de départ la signification de la mission SCJ en Inde, l’auteur essaye de déterminer les étapes d’une formation incarnée des religieux SCJ. Cette formation inculturée passe à travers la découverte des valeurs spirituelles du peuple indien, tout comme par la prise de conscience des problèmes économiques et culturels vécus par ce peuple. Ce processus de formation, exigeant à l’égard des dehoniens, sera le fruit d’une expérience de foi qui inspirera les formateurs à être miséricordieux, saints, et à vivre harmonieusement en communauté. Ils devront être davantage des modèles de vie chrétienne et religieuse que des maîtres.

FR - Un pionnier de la présence dehonienne dans cette île nous fait parcourir le chemin de cette présence depuis les débuts jusqu’aujourd’hui, les modalités de notre engagement missionnaire et l’effort pour impliquer directement les laïcs, malgaches et européens, dans la tâche de traduire l’annonce de la foi dans des œuvres concrètes de solidarité et de promotion humaine à tous les niveaux.

EN - A pioneer of the Dehonian presence in this island leads us along the road of this presence from its origins up to today. We are made aware of the methods of our missionary commitment, and the effort to directly involve the laity, both Malagasy and European, in the task of translating the proclamation of faith into concrete works of solidarity and human promotion on all levels.

FR - Le P. Alceu nous fait découvrir les débuts de l’histoire du christianisme au Brésil. Il visite les premières communautés chrétiennes qui, pour différentes raisons, furent pendant longtemps reléguées à l’oubli. Il cherche à faire justice à tant de chrétiens, prêtres et laïcs, qui, malgré quelques erreurs et défaillances, ont eu le courage de réaliser la « plantatio ecclesiae » au Brésil, dans des situations extrêmement difficiles.

EN - Fr. Alceu allows us to discover the beginnings of the history of Christianity in Brazil. He visits the first Christian communities which, for different reasons, were relegated to oblivion for a long time. He tries to be just to all Christians, priests and laity, who, in spite of some errors and lapses, had the courage to create the “plantatio ecclesiae” in Brazil, during situations which were sometimes extremely difficult.

IT - In questo articolo, più che una recensione, viene offerta una vera e propria presentazione del contenuto e dello spessore intellettuale e storico della recentissima pubblicazione circa la dimensione politica del culto al Sacro Cuore. Una parte importante è dedicata al ruolo giocato da Leone Dehon all’interno dei movimenti sociali e politici del suo tempo.

FR - Plus qu’une recension, l’article nous offre une véritable présentation du contenu et de l’épaisseur intellectuelle et historique de cette publication toute récente au sujet de la dimension politique de la dévotion au Sacré-Cœur. Une partie importante est consacrée au rôle joué par Léon Dehon à l’intérieur des mouvements sociaux et politiques de son temps.

EN - Rather than a review, this article offers us a veritable introduction of the content, as well as the intellectual and historic density, of this very recent publication concerning the subject of the political dimension of devotion to the Sacred Heart. An important part is dedicated to the role played by Leo Dehon within the social and political movements of his time.
