What's New?

Rome

The meeting of Major Superiors ended on Friday, November 16, 2001. You can find many of the topics they discussed by going to the Letters & Documents section and linking to the Superiors Meeting.

During the second week of the superiors meeting the General Finance Commission held their annual fall meeting as well as taking time out from their sessions to meet with the major superiors.

The week of November 19-23, 2001 will find Mission Animators from around the congregation meeting in Rome. This meeting has been organized by Riszard Mis (CU), who is responsible for the mission sector from the general council.

What's Happening?

Canada

After a long process followed closely by the general administration and scjs from around the congregation the General Superior with the consent of his council meeting on November 10, 2001 established:

Approved the creation of a New Canadian Region Nullius Provinciae to take effect in June of 2002. We will leave the date up to you. However, I do note that on my first visit to Canada we had the opportunity to share the Feast of the Sacred Heart with all of you; and it would be my pleasure to do so again should you decide on the date of June 7, 2002, for the creation of the New Canadian Region.*

The new Canadian region is made up of what presently is Anglo Canadian Province and the Region of French Canada. As stated in his letter the exact date in June, 2002 will be determined upon the recommendation of the members of the new region.

Fr. Dehon's meetings with the students of St. John's College

TWELFTH MEETING OF THE ALUMNI ASSOCIATION FROM ST. JOHN'S
08/18/1895 (AD. B. 90/ 1 inv. 0112802)
These minutes begin saying that the association is the place where the alumni can share their pains and joys. Many of them were experiencing critical situations in their lives. At this gathering, all were asked to pay their membership fee of 10 francs to assist those alumni in need. Frs. Rigault, Paris, Rasset, Falleur, Pacaud, and Vichon are present. Fr. Delloue, the Dean of Studies at the College, celebrates the Mass and is assisted by Abbe Emil Crinon. Fr. Rasset, who for many years served as the English professor, preached the sermon. He began the homily with a text from St. Paul's letter to Timothy: "I fled from my desires of youth, and found justice (1 Tim. 6:11)". He expressed that his intention was not to criticize or accuse youth with his words. Jesus never condemned youth: "I have come not to destroy but to perfect". What is to be done is to escape sensuality and practice justice that belongs with the supernatural virtues: faith, hope, and love. He exhorted them to be perfect and to love God with all their heart and effort. Before leaving the chapel, Fr. Dehon prayed the DE PROFUNDIS for all the deceased, as was his custom. The meeting began with the election of new leaders for the Association.
