Summary

The XXth General Chapter approved several motions to promote We the Congregation within the context of finances. For the last year the GFC (General Finance Commission) has been meeting to try and come to grips with how to implement these motions. In the presentation of the theme the general treasurer offered several alternative implementation proposals. He also made it clear the groups should feel free to offer other suggestions and alternatives to what is found on paper.

In addition to the motions several other themes were presented. La Capelle for one needs to be clarified, not only as to 'who' will staff it, but how it is to be funded as a 'congregational' project. In addition the increase number of general international meetings (chapter, conference, superiors, treasurers, etc.) do have cost associated with them. How should they be funded?

Finally reports on the reconstruction of Rome I and the operation of Villa Aurelia were presented.

Meeting Notes

Because groups finished their work early yesterday the topic of the "politics of culture" was presented at the last session of the day by Carlos Alberto da Costa Silva. His report A POLICY OF CULTURE - EDUCATION - INCULTURATION

In addition to members of the general finance commission, several provincial treasurers (IS, IM, PO) are attending today's sessions. This is in keeping with a new policy established by the GFC (General Finance Commission):

...invited provincial bursars from nearby provinces (it was done in Madrid with the bursars from LU and HI -- here in Rome with the bursars of IM, IS, PO -- at the meting in Luxembourg in February '99 the bursars of FL, NE, BH, ACR, FIN will be invited (GA, LW and GE have representatives on the GFC (General Finance Commission)).

Today's reflection is offered by Jozef Gawel. He is in his first term as provincial superior of the Polish Province. One of his past duties included that of serving as novice master for the Polish Province. One of his associates was Adam Musialek (AM) who also assisted in the preparation of the English translation of the Polish text (CF. J. Gawel).
