As the Provincials, the regional superiors and the superiors of the communities of MAD, PHI & IND, arrived, being a first experience for me, both as a religious and in the general council to be in such a meeting, it felt like the first drops of the havy rain that was coming. I knew that my period of purification and acceptance into this place has come. Today, the first day of our meeting, theoretically felt, to me, like the heavy rain pouring on the child put outside and brought in the house to feel the welcome and the wormth of the family members after a few moments of criying. Somehow overwhelming. But I really felt amongs my brothers.
The proceedings of the day were preceded by a very prayerful Eucharistic Celebration whose precedent was Fr. General himself. To show that our meeting is also a 'kind of a retreat, ongoing formation and that it derives its inspiration and its guidance from the Holy Spirit,' the first part of the Eucharist, the Liturgy of the Word started in the confrerence room. In his sermon he spoke about the intertwining of the liturgical memory, proclaimed word and the congregational event which design a spiritual itinerary. "No government action is its own end, and it can not be effective without the grace of God," he said. He further highlighted and reaffirmed the fact that we are one "Sint Unum."In his words: "We are talking about reaffirming, with understanding and adequate choices, our Sint Unum; our communion, our congregational fraternity, our sharing of projects, personnel, means and the universal dimention of the charism of Fr. Dehon." He went on to encourage everybody present never to lose sight of the final aim: the mission of the congregation. He gave many other exhortations. From there we moved in a very solemn procession to the chapel, singing a song to the Holy Spirit, where we culminated with the liturgy of the Eucharist.
Thereafter the meeting started with great enthusiasm. Some very warm welcoming words once more, which made everybody really feel at home were extended to all by Fr. General. I could see some smiles of approval and faces brightening up, or was it only mine? I definitely was not the only new person in the in this kind of a gathering, therefore it was not only mine.
The opening speech of Fr. General, highlighted the fact that every province, region and community needs to understand, deepen and promote the plan, "We, the congregation, in service to the mission." People need to feel involved and part of it, not only in theory, but also in practice. This calls for a change of heart and mentality. He went on to speak about many other important things to note. The afternoon was devoted to the geographic area group discussions. You will definitely have a full report on them soon.
Since I came to Rome I have heard about, and I have dealt with so many provincials and superiors, but only on paper. It was, thererore, such a wonderful experience to be able to reconcile the names with the faces. Now the picture is getting complete, what a change? Besides that this meeting is one of those experiences that keep on widening my scope of the congregation as well as increasing my experience. I am ever growing in the understanding that the SCJ congregation is not only in South Africa, where I came from, or in the few provinces I was so fortunate to see before I came to Rome. It is international. May the spirit of "We, the Cngregation, in service to the mission" be alive in every member of the congregation. May god bless us all.

Como uma criança recém nascida
Numa das tribos da Africa do Sul há o costume de a criança não sair de casa por um mês depois de nascer. Nunca se soube o por quê. Depois de um mês, se chover, ela é levada para fora e exposta à chuva. E uma espécie de rito de purificação.
Os Provinciais, Regionais e outros superiores chegaram. Para mim foi a primeira experiência foi como sentir os primeiros pingos da chuva. Hoje, no primeiro dia da reunião, senti uma chuva forte caindo na crança exposta fora ao sentir a acolhida da casa foi como sentir o calor dos familiares depois de im pouco de choro. Me senti de fato entre irmãos.
O dia foi iniciado por uma verdadeira celebração eucarística, presidida pelo Superior geral.. Para dizer que nosso encontro é uma espécie de retiro e de formaçao permanente, guiada pelo Espírito Santo, a primeira parte da Eucaristia, a Liturgia da Palavra começou na sala de conferências. Em sua homilia, o Geral falou do itinerário espiritual da Cngregaçªao. " O governo não existe para si mesmo e não será eficaz sem a graça de Deus.
Depois, ele enfatizou que somos um só. Nós queremos reafirmar o Sint Unum, nossa comunhão, nossa fraternidade, nossa partilha de projetos, de pessoal, de meios e o carisma universal de Pe. Dehon.
Ninguém de nós deve perder de vista nosso objetivo final.: a missão da Congregação. Ele ainda fez várias outras exortações.
Fomos então, numa verdadeira procissão para a capela, cantando ao Espírito Santo e, ali, concluimos a celebração.
A reunião prosseguiu com grande entusiasmo. As palavras de boas-vindas foram calorosas, o que fez todos se sentirem em casa. Pude perceber os sorrisos de aprovação no rosto de todos. Eu não era o único novato neste tipo de reunião.
As palavras de abertura do Geral ressaltaram o fato que cada Província, Regiao e comunidade deve compreender, aprofundar e promover o projeto Nós Congregação. O pessoal tem que se sentir envolvido nele, o que exige uma mudança, uma conversão.
O Geral mencionou ainda outras coisas importantes.
De tarde houve os debates em grupos geográficos.
Antes de vir a Roma eu tinha entrado em contato com muitos provinciais e regionais mas só no papel. Foi uma experiência maravilhosa conciliar os nomes com os rostos. Agora o retrato está completo. Além do mais, este tipo de reunião é uma das experiências que alarga a visão de Congregação e enriquece a gente. Sempre fui formado sabendo que a Congregação não existe só na África do Sul, de onde venho. Ela é internacional. Que o Espírito do Nos Congregação esteja vivo em cada membro da Congregaçãoo e que Deus nos abençôe a todos.
