Justice & PeaceYou'll note a change in the side bar to our website. The Salamanca Education Conference has been removed (you can find it now on the Letters & Documents page) and in it's place you'll find Montréal 2002.
The first two documents posted to this page are the letter of convocation from Fr. General dated April 16, 2001.
It seemed opportune to the Superior General and his Council to convoke a meeting of the Peace and Justice promoters of the Congregation now that the General Conference of Recife (May 2000) is over; in fact, these people along with the major and local superiors have an important responsibility in promoting the applications of the decisions and directions taken at the conference.
The second document is the registration form which also contains the dates for the conference (September 30, 2002 through October 10, 2002 in Montréal, Canada).
In the name of the SCJs of North America, we welcome you to the SCJ Justice and Peace International gathering. As announced by Father General in his letter of April 16, 2001 we will gather in Montreal, Quebec, Canada in October 2002. This gathering will provide a deepening of the themes presented at the General Conference in Recife, Brazil, in 2000.
The gathering will begin on Monday evening, September 30, 2202 at 5 pm at the Notre Dame centre in Montreal and will conclude on Thursday evening, October 10.
Look for future postings of articles and materials in various languages pertinent to this conference. Carlos Alberto da Costa Silva from the general council will be the general council liaison with the Justice & Peace commissions of North American who are organizing this conference on behalf of the general administration.
NB Please take note of "Please send one copy for each person who will attend to (before January 31, 2002".
British-Irish ProvinceThe superior general, along with Thomas Cassidy, general councilor responsible for the British-Irish Province will attend the BH Province Assembly (December 3-6, 2001) at Malpas. The theme of the assembly is Continuing Forward in Hope, a provincial plan for the next three years.
