Pardon Us
Due to an ongoing computer problem we were not able to send the news last week. Please also note this week's news does not contain all the articles we would like to publish. The computer problems delayed sending the news to our various translators. We apologize for that and hope to be back to normal starting next week. Please also be aware that until we find a new Spanish translator we are unable to offer a Spanish language edition of the news.

+Fr. Issac Carter BH born: 14.02.1916
first profession: 13.05.1940
ordained: 20.12.1947
died: 22.08.2001 at Widnes, GBThe funeral of "Fr Ike" took place here at Malpas today. In a true celebration of his life and of faith in the resurrection we laid Ike to rest in the Malpas cemetery. Many of his family joined the community and other friends for the funeral. Among other intentions there was a prayer for those who suffer from Alzheimer's disease and their family. Fr Ike suffered from Alzheimer's in the last years of his life. One email message from India said: Now he has his last and best appointment!
Isaac Carter SCJ died on Wednesday the 22nd of August at 8.20 pm. He had lived for several years in Nazareth House, Widnes, where the care and attention of the Sisters and staff was wonderful. On the afternoon of his death he took ill and shortly afterwards the community were called. Owen Wynne SCJ and Chris Jenkins SCJ were with him when he died.
Fr Ike, as he was universally known, spent many years as a missionary in Indonesia and always kept a great love for that country and its people. As one of his former parishioners in Tanjung Enim put it "He loved us and we knew that he did!" A man of very simple lifestyle Ike inspired many. He also served for a time as Novice Master and one of his former novices, Al Sudarso, is now Bishop of Palembang. On his retirement due to ill health he settled in Malpas and was a feature of the centre here, always ready with stories of Indonesia and to share his love of football- as well as his deep faith. Please pray for him as he will for us.

born: 24.08.1941
first profession: 08.09.1966
ordained: 01.09.1973
died: 22.08.2001 at Chebyogan, Michigan
Rev. Joseph E. Poirier, SCJ, 59 years old of Franklin, Wis., and Cheboygan, passed away in Cheboygan at the home of his sister on Wednesday, August 22, 2001. Having just begun his annual vacation, his death was sudden and unexpected.
Fr. Poirier was bon in Cheboygan on August 24, 1941, the son of Joseph and Germaine (Falardeau) Poirier. He attended St. Mary's Grade School and then Cheboygan Catholic High School where he graduated in 1959. While in high school he was active in sports. In 1957 he kicked a field goal of 53 yards. This was a state record and it held for 18 years until 1975. Following high school he attended Northern Michigan College at Marquette, Mich., on a football scholarship. He then served in the U.S. Army for three years and was a chaplain's assistant in Metz, France. He was honorably discharged as a corporal in October, 1963.
Within the year he began his studies for entry into religious life and the priesthood with the Priests of the Sacred Heart, completing orientation and preparatory studies at Dehon Seminary at Great Barrington, Mass.
After his novitiate at Ste. Marie, Ill., the young Poirier made his religious profession on September 8, 1966, and immediately began studies leading to a BA from Kilroe Seminary at Honesdale, Pa.
Following his philosophical studies and liberal arts studies, Fr. Joseph Poirier entered Sacred Heart School of Theology at Hales Corners, Wis., from which he obtained his M.Div. degree and was ordained to the priesthood on September 1, 1973.
Fr. "Joe" then spent a year at a reservation parish in South Dakota and returned to Hales Corners from 1974 to 1976 as Director of Student Activity. From Wisconsin he went to St. Joseph, Holly Springs Miss., for a year and then back to the reservation parish in Eagle Butte, SD for four years. Fr. "Joe" also spent the years from 1981-1987 at St. Francis Assisi in Cheboygan and Sacred heart in Riggsville, followed by another year in Holly Springs.
After his parochial duties, Fr. Poirier began to specialize in caring for the elderly and retired members of the Priests of the Sacred Heart: at Villa Maria in Franklin Wis. from 1990-1993 and at Sacred Heart Residence in Pinellas Park, Fla. from 1993-2000. His assignment at the time he died was at Villa Maria once again.
Survivors include his sisters Muriel Crawley of Allen Park, Mich. And Lucille (Ken) Clark and Therese Poirier of Cheybogan. He also leaves his Aunt and several cousins as well as three nieces and four nephews. His parents preceded him in death, as well as his brother Peter, his brother-in-law Arthur Crawley and his nephew Paul Crawley.
