General Chapter - delegate listThe XXIst General Chapter will have 81 delegates (both de jure and elected). They come from 29 different provinces, regions and districts plus the general administration. The list of delegates and alternates as of October 5th is being posted to the general chapter section of our website.
Justice & Peace
The SCJ Montréal Justice and Peace Conference began on October 1st and runs for 10 days. This week we are posting Mary Gorski's email reports through October 4th in English, French and Italian to our website. They can also be found on the Montréal 2002 page.
Indonesia - Papua
Vincent Suparman kindly wrote a short article for us on the Indonesian SCJ internal mission to Papua, Indonesia. Vincent along with Fr. Herbert Henslok and Br. Matthew Sumarjo began their work in July of 2001 (cf. First Year for SCJs in Papua).Italy - ordination
On October, 5th Giovanni Mengoli, from the Northern Italian province, will be ordained Deacon at Bologna.
Necrology - as of 1 October
With the reporting of the death of + Fr. Gerardus Johannes Peeters of Holland in this week's news update 24 scjs have died during the first nine months of the year and that compares to 42 for the same period in 2001.
Rome - on their way to Congo
Valmir Colombo (BM) and Joaquim Donizetti Tomba (BM) in front of
General Curia, RomeHaving completed their study of French in Brussels Valmir Colombo and Joaquim Donizetti Tomba are spending a few days in Rome before heading to the Congo. They will join several other scjs from South Brazilian who are working as missionaries in the Congo as members of the SCJ Congolese Province.

Ordained: 16.07.1950
Died: 22.09.2002 at Helmond, HollandOriginaly from Nijmegen, after his ordination, Fr. Gerardus went to Helmond where he worked as a teacher for 10 years. In 1961 he moved to Liesbosch where he stayed until 1968 as religion teacher and moderator in a school at Breda. At the same time he was chaplain of a prison in Breda. From 1968 to 1973 he was assistant priest and religion teacher at Maastricht.
In 1973 P. Gerardus started his ministry at the parish of the Good Shepherd, at Helmond and later became chief of the pastoral team of Helmond-Oost. When he retired in 1990, the Bishop wrotehim words of praise for his work at the parish. After that he continued assisting at the parish.
Within the Congregation he also filled many rolls such as member of the Committee of Catechesis for Adults. From 1985 to 1986 he was the administrator of the regional community of Helmond. From 1986 to 1995 he was treasurer of the same community.
