New Scripture Site NotedPaul Reid (US) sent the following information about a scripture site on the web.
John Salza, Catholic apologist and friend of the Priests of the Sacred Heart, has developed an outstanding web site for Catholic apologetics. Scripturecatholic.com provides over 2000 Scripture citations explaining and defending the teachings of the Catholic Church. The site is intended to function as a quick, Scriptural reference guide and assumes the user has some understanding of the Protestant arguments against the Catholic faith. Scripturecatholic.com is an excellent source for anyone who wants to understand the Scriptural basis for the Catholic faith.
The URL for Scripture Catholic is: http://www.Scripturecatholic.com/

NB. The scjs do not have any parishes or other religious works in either the New York City or Washington D.C., area. However several scjs come from the New York City area and have family and friends who work in Manhattan.
Eagle Butte
Br. Frank Presto writes that the new Adolescent Center in Eagle Butte will be ready for "ownership" either this week or next (September 10 or 17). "Ownership" means that the Sacred Heart Center can then call on the state inspectors to do their final "look-see" of the building and approve it for occupancy. "However, since the fire, safety and health people have approved all the designs and plans I do not anticipate too many problems (But I am keeping my fingers and toes crossed just in case)," wrote Br. Frank.
Speaking of the Sacred Heart Center and its many programs and services, Br. Frank notes in the annual report that "as the new building began to rise from the prairie surface, the center continued its tradition of serving those in need. The Women's Shelter saw a massive influx in people seeking their assistance. It experienced a 38% increase in shelter days over fiscal year 2000-01. The upturn in shelter days also coincided with an increase in others seeking non-residential services. There were many days when the shelter offices and bedrooms were abuzz with activity on various levels. It was rare when the advocates had time and space to recover their breath.
"The shelter was fortunate to receive additional funding through the Victim's of Crime Assistance grant via SD Department of Social Services, Adult Services and Aging. The extra money allowed the agency to redesign the filing system and renovate the children's playroom. The new system provides quicker access to essential documents."

+Fr. Battista Carrara ISborn 24.06.1922
first profession: 29.09.1939
ordained: 01.07.1947
died: 18..09.2001 at Riva del Garda, ItalyFr. Carrara Battista was born at Albino (BG) on June 24, 1922. He came from a large family and many of them became involved with the Church (three brothers became priests: two Capuchins and one an SCJ).
Young Battista began his studies at the minor seminary in Albino and made his novitiate at Albisola Superiore. He made his first profession on September 29, 1939, and, because of the war, he his theological studies took place in several locations: Oropa, Sastelfranco, and Sastiglione dei Pepole. His last two years of theology were done in Bologna where on July 1, 1947, he was ordained a priest.
That same year he went to Portugal as the Italian Province had opened a house in order to prepare missionaries for Mozambique.
Fr. Carraa spent many years in Portugal making noteworthy contributions to the development of the region and ultimately the province of Portugal. He worked there for almost 30 years (1947 to 1973), which were crucial moments in the foundation of the first houses.
His initial work was at the minor seminary at Funchal where he went from being the assistant house treasurer, to spiritual director, teacher and finally rector from 1952 to 1957. He was ceaseless in his efforts to find the financial means to support the many students who came to the school.
In 1957 he was named the regional superior and served until 1964. In 1967 he became rector of the church of Nostra Signora di Loreto in Lisbon where he stayed until 1973. He worked especially among the Italians living in Portugal and for this work was recognized by the Italian ambassador to Portugal with the d'oro di cavaliere medal. He brought the Cursillos movement to Italy.
Due to health problems in 1973 he returned to the land of his birth to regain his strength.
Upon his return he was first assigned to the community at Capiaggo (1973 to 1975) and then he served as superiors in the communities at Conegliano Veneto and Palagano. In his last years he retired at our former minor seminar in Albino living among his relatives who helped him after he suffered a major stroke.
