Necrology Update. A new necrology page has been posted taking note of death that were inadvertently not listed on the site of +P. Aldo Fortuna (MZ) who died at Gilè, Mozambique, on June 13, 2000, and +P Clemens Ewald Shäfer GE who died in Bonn on August 26, 2000.

We close this week's news page using the Ordination Card symbol of Massimo Staiano (IM),who was ordained last April at S. Antonio Abate, near Naples.

Venezuela - Congratulations

In Caracas at St. Michael the Archangel Church, on the 29 of September, renewal of vows for four scjs from the Region of Venezuela (a region of the Spanish Province) took place. They are:

  • Alberto Galìndez,
  • Carlos Frick
  • Alfredo Leal.

Italy - Congregationis

To Daniele Gaiola (IS) and Francesco Morrone (IM) who were ordained today, October 14, 2000, by Cardinal Biffi in the Cathedral of St. Peter, Bologna. Both are students at Studentato per le Missioni - Bologna.

Mozambique

We have received  CARTA ÀS COMUNIDADES 17 from Quelimane dated September 29, 2000 containing the latest news of the province in Portuguese.

Evaristo de Alegría Martínez (HI) was kind enough to pass along a photo of the recent first profession ceremony that took place in Spain on September 29, 2000 (cf. first profession).

Bukavu

Over the last few months we have been reporting on plans for I'm Coming to Bukavu at the request of the office of Justice & Peace. Two updates are being posted this week:

An Appeal dated July 28, 2000 available in French, English and Italian.

I'm Coming to Bukavu, an outline of the aims and goals of the project available in English and Italian.

We also regret to inform of the death last week in Rome of Bishop Emmanuel Kataliko, bishop of the diocese of Bukavu.

Dehonian Family Meeting

The gathering of 60+ participants to the Dehonian Family Meeting concluded their activities on October 13, 2000. Please make sure to visit the Dehonian Family Page posted during last week's activities. Also please note, that due to 'technical difficulties' i.e., our digital camera broke down the first morning, we are not able to post any photos.

Ordained: 11.07.1937
Consecrated Bishop: 13.03.1947
Died: 06.10.2000 at Fürstenau

Bishop Lück was consecrated bishop in 1947 and appointed Vicar Apostolic for Aliwal North on May 15, 1947. He was nominated bishop for the diocese of Aliwal North on January 1, 1951. Bishop Lück retried on December 17, 1973 and returned to his home province in Germany

Letters from the First Novices

In the eighteenth in our series from CORRESPONDENCE OF THE FIRST NOVICES BEFORE THE "CONSUMMATUM EST 1878-1883" by Egidio Driedonkx, we begin part two Correspondence Received. The first was sent in 1880 to Falleur from José París.

Let me interrupt my studies for a moment to offer my congratulations for our dear fathers and brother of the Sacred Heart. I only have 10 minutes to write this. I just completed my second course in Hebrew whichI can already read. It burns my head but my heart is completely free and is drawn to the Sacred Heart in order to obtain abundant graces for Fr. Stanislaus.
